I love live street cameras, particularly this one outside Wrigley Field.

As Chicago braces for a storm that is expected to drop 4-8 inches of snow by Tuesday night, just a few short weeks before the opening day of the 2013 Major League Baseball season, today would be a good day to pull up the street cam on your laptop or tablet or whatever and watch the snow pile up on the street in front of the legendary field.

That is unless you're at work. We don't won't to slow your roll at work today by encouraging you to sit at your desk, drink loads of coffee and watch snow fall.

By the way, the above screen grab was taken at about 9:24 Central time this morning.

One more thing: Could someone clean the rain/ice off the Arch Cam in St. Louis? Thanks!

Update: The weather guy on HLN just said Chicago could get up to 10 inches of snow from this storm. Wow. Keep you eyes on that Wrigley Field cam, unless you live in Chicago. In that case, get to work. As my wife says: the snow is not going to shovel itself! 

Can They Play Two in the Snow?

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for spring and baseball season, particularly after seeing – or is it despite seeing? – this photo posted last night on the Cubs’ Facebook page of the snow falling on the statues outside Wrigley Field.

It’s been an unusually mild and quiet winter here at The Rainout Blog world headquarters, but I’m eagerly awaiting the days when I don’t have to fear waking up and driving to work in nine inches of snow.

For now, with Opening Day still a few months away, we can sneak a peek at the streets outside Wrigley Field, where currently a little snow lingers, and dream of the warmer, baseball-filled days ahead.

Wrigley Throwback

Speaking of cool photos (See below) I found this shot, while searching for other pics, of threatening storm clouds hovering above Wrigley Field during a May 2004 game. The Rainout Blog didn’t exist back then. I’m not sure if I had even heard of the word blog four years ago.

A Drain on Opening Day

Rain spoiled Opening Day in only two Major League Baseball cities Monday: New York and St. Louis. The last home opener at Yankee Stadium was called off and has been rescheduled for tonight. The same goes for the Cardinals and Rockies opening game at Busch Stadium. Meanwhile, wet stuff hit a few other locations Monday, but teams in those cities played through to the end. I love this photo of the Phillies grounds crew.

Wrigley Ice

It sure looks cold outside Wrigley Field right now. Check out the Web cam and see for yourself. I could go for a hot cup of coffee inside the McDonald's across the street.

The photo featured to the right is not from today, but from a snowed-out Cubs game with the Astros on April 11.

Don't forget: Only two more days until pitchers and catchers report to spring training.

Wrigley Blows

Speaking of weather, ballparks and the baseball playoffs (see below) there will be at least one game played at Wrigley Field. And you know what that means: Wind. Most likely wind will blow at Wrigley – and so will the Cubs -- but the bigger question is which direction. Dusty Baker appeared on Colin Cowherd's ESPN Radio show today talking about how the wind factors into almost every game at Wrigley. Baker didn't really say anything we didn't already know, but he did say that if the wind blows out or across the field, it's in the Cubs favor since they have the bigger bats. However, Arizona, which has a two-game lead and could sweep the short series with a win Saturday, has the advantage with the wind blowing in because of its superior pitching and defense.
