One million, two million... $240 million

By now, you’ve heard Robinson Cano took the money and ran to Seattle, a place CBS sportswriter Jason Keidel says is more known for “coffee and cold rain and bad baseball.” (Yes, the “cold rain” line is what lands this on The Rainout Blog.)

Keidel also suggests Cano’s agent, Jay Z, may have hustled Cano in the deal. Jay Z is good at math, you know.

Anyway, that’s an interesting word, “hustle,” when referring to Cano because it’s likely folks in Seattle, while sipping latte’s and waiting for Seahawks training camp to begin, will not see much of it from their new second baseman. Wait, is that the Yankees fan in me talking?

I imagine John Sterling is sitting alone somewhere in New York City shouting, “Robbie Cano, don’t ya know… you’ll never win a ring in Seattle.”

If you haven’t yet checked out Preston’s work – where’ve you been? – you can visit his website. Also, Deadspin has featured Preston’s talents this week. 

All of his ballpark works are fascinating, but the one that caught my rainout-blogging eye was the print of Seattle’s Safeco Field, which in Preston’s brilliant minimalist way, simply shows a steady rain falling on the ballpark’s retractable roof. 

Perfect! 

I’m asking for that particular print for Christmas.

No Rays of Sunshine at Birdland

In case you missed it, the rubber match of the Rays at Orioles three-game series was rained out Thursday. No make up date has been announced. The O’s are scheduled to open a four-game set today with Seattle at Camden Yards, but the forecast is not promising for that game. The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. You can read more about Thursday’s rainout at the O’s official Web site. In this AP photo, Rays pitchers Al Reyes and J.P.
